Money looks simple from the outside. You tap a card, a price moves, a rate changes. Behind every one of those moments sits an orchestra of banks, schemes, regulators and rules, each playing its own part and not always from the same score.

I’ve spent 28 years in that orchestra pit, at American Express, at Mastercard and in UK banking, building card products and arguing over who pays when things go wrong. The Money Orchestra is where I write about what I see from inside the machine: who really pays, who decides, and how it ends up in your wallet.

Expect clear explanations, an honest view and the occasional dry joke. No hype, no tips, no hot takes for the sake of it.
